Magazine Review: Harper's Bazaar September 2010 - Jennifer Aniston

So far, this is my favorite September issue. I dog-earred a lot of pages & made a lot of notes.

Fashion: I love how Bazaar often pairs a photo shoot with a few paragraphs or even a page of writing about the fashions they have shown. Makes it more accessible somehow. Anyway, in this issue they have an Accessories Special featureing leopard, skins & the color red, an article titled Secrets of Efortless Style, The New Fashion Flock, Where Have All the Bras Gone? & Bringing Mystery Back. They also have a How to Wear It Guide (like pairing camel w/caramel accessories, olive with florals, etc) & How to Wear Pantsuits. There is a tribute to Daisy Fellowes, an interview of Marc Jacobs by Calvin Klein, and a 1 page write up about The Row. They have 2 pages of couture & a really cool fashion shoot with Rachel Zoe as the subject, posing with various big name designers. Zoe did a very good job & the pics are very artistic.
Nothing worth mentioning as far as beauty goes.

Get this issue!!

Magazine Review: Harper's Bazaar August 2010 - Cameron Diaz

I want to start by saying that I'm loving the lady-like looks & the 70s inspiration. With my lifestyle I probably won't be able to work the cute dresses but flare jeans, camel coats, shearling bombers? Bring them on!
Fashion: In this issue they have a handbag special & a really nice article about What to Buy & How to Wear It (camel coats, leopard accents, menswear tailoring, feminine blouses, etc).
Beauty: Not much here, just 2 pages on the requisite August magazine topic, hair.
Articles: Eat, Shop, Love (by Simon Doonan. I didn't really like the encouragement for women to shop to feel better but I guess its appropriate for a fashion magazine), Two Moms & a Baby (the inspiration behind the movie The Kids Are All Right), Mistaken for the Nanny (about having mixed race kids).
The A Fashionable Life section is something I normally skip but this month its on the Hilfigers & all I can say is, damn. Every picture of the wife was so OTT & posed. Ridiculous.

Not tons of great content but I did feel inspired for fall.

Magazine Review: Harper's Bazaar June/July 2010 - Katherine Heigl

What stood out most about this issue was all of the ladylike fall fashion. Things like cat-eye sunglasses, kitten heels & structured skin bags. Felt quite inspiring. Even the celebrity photoshoots had a very demure, ladylike feel. For other fashion articles, they had SUmming up the (fall) Season, the Runway Report (lots of camel/gray, the new bohemian, opulence, 90s minimalism, cozy chic, the great outdoors, etc) & Roberto Cavalli's Fashion Circus.
In Beauty, the only noteable thing was (Fall's) Best Beauty, Guide to the Season's Makeup, Hair & Skin. Looks included groomed brows, chic polish (greige - still!) & touseled locks.
For Articles, there was Gloria Allred's Fighting Spirit (lawyer who represents the women involved in the Tiger Woods, Jesse James scandals & an article on Bristol Palin (when I saw that I almost threw the magazine out right then. Bazaar does seem to like to feature controversial people - thinking of the Miley & Paris and Nicole covers).

Overall, quite inspiring if you want to think about fall already.

Magazine Review: Harper's Bazaar May 2010 - Gwyneth Paltrow

For some reason this issue hit newstands *much* later than usual.
Overall this is a very good issue. Apparently May really is naked month because Bazaar had a few celebs (Kim K, Joy Bryant, etc) naked too (and apparently unretouched).
My favorite part of Bazaar is the fashion-related articles & this month I def wasn't disappointed. Topics included curvy models on the catwalk, Rules of Summer (printed dresses, leather shorts, stripes, etc), Chic in the Heat, How to wear the denim trends & 4 pages of packing tips. They also had a makeover of the Jersey Shore girls.
The Beauty section was boring as usual.
But overall, I think this issue is worth getting.

Magazine Review: Harper's Bazaar April 2010 - Demi Moore

I buy Bazaar from newstands and I miss out on the cool covers. The April subscriber issue has Demi standing on stairs next to a giraffe. Sounds odd but it was quite nice & artistic (you can see it on page 217). The whole Demi photo shoot was quite nice, great use of oversized props & interesting use of color.
There were a few good fashion articles in this issue, starting with the couture report (but isn't this normally a lot longer than 1 page? Hopefully they'll go more into depth later on) and shopping tips from top department store buyers. In the usual Fabulous at Every Age section they had two new sections; a Q&A about what trends are appropriate at what age and a 7 Day Wardrobe article which follows 4 women, 1 in each decade & shows outfits they wear for the week.
For articles, they had a short piece on Chelsea Handler, which includes a photo shoot with Abigail Breslin. I know Abigail is young but I would've liked it if she was mentioned more in the article.
I normally skip over the home section but I couldn't help but take a second (and third) look at A Fashionable Life: Natalie (and Simon) Fuller. *Stunning* decor. Not all that liviable but nice to look at and be inspired by.
