Magazine Review: Women's Health July/August 2010 - Ashley Greene

I can't wait until I can actually start working out again. I doubt I'll stick with it long since I tend to be lazy but at least I can try. lol
Let's start with the Workouts in this issue. They have a plyometric (jumping/quick movements) workout, Master That Move: Chin Up, the 15 Minute Workout: Get Hot Legs & Reshape Your Body in Record Time (requires resistance band, stability ball, dumbbells & body bar).
For Food, Giada has a few light summer dessert recipes & there are several summer cocktail recipes along w/10 Things You Can Do with a Tomato (stuffed, granita, etc).
In the Articles, they have a page on popular supplements & how to decide if you need to take it, Label Fables (serving size misconceptions), Dry Your Eyes, Guys!, Slow Down for Hotter Sex, Escape Any Sticky Situation (taken from book by Jane Buckingham), Survive Your Doctor (how busy doctors might overlook serious concerns since women in mid 20-30s aren't a high-risk group) & Is Fidelity Obsolete?
In Beauty & Fashion, they have a page on products to even your skintone, several twisted & braided hairstyles tot ry & fashion bloggers wearing white buttondown shirts their way.

Overall, I'm on the fence about this issue. None of the workouts stood out to me (I prefer to not have to buy a lot of equiptment & I'm in a 2nd floor apt so I can't really jump around while I workout) but I did like the Twisted Sisters hair article, Label Fables & Is Fidelity Obsolete?

Magazine Review: Women's Health June 2010 - Lea Michele

This issue wasn't nearly as good as I normally expect WH to be. Here's an overview:
For Exercise, they have Tone Up for a Two Piece (which is mostly basic moves like squats, lunges, dumbbell flys & rows, etc), How to Master a Pushup, the 15 Minute Workout is Energizing with Yoga, & Swim Your Butt Off (benefits of swimming plus tearout cards for a poolside shapeup).
Diet articles included Diet vs Exercise: The Smackdown (which is more effective in losing weight, avoiding cancer, etc), Lose Your Appetite (tips include eating potatoes, having protein for breakfast, sniffing peppermint, etc), "New" Greens (radicchio, watercress, etc), Build a Better Kebab & 6 Bikini-Friendly Burgers.
They also have their 2010 Beauty Awards but as someone who reads a lot of beauty mags, I didn't find anything new or interesting to check out.

Magazine Review: Women's Health May 2010 - Jillian MIchaels

This is one of my favorite magazines but it felt a little lacking this month. Still worth getting but not as great as usual.
Fitness - They have a martial-art style workout, the 15 Minute Workout is for flat abs w/no crunches, how to create your own "bootcamp" workout and How to Look Better Naked (stole the idea from Allure this month?) which includes workout "rules" & tear out exercises. They also had slimdown success stories complete w/tips from each of the women featured.
Food - they had 2 pages of common spices & their tastes, benefits & how to use them. Vegetables, fresh vs frozen, fast homemade appetizers, gourmet-looking sandwiches, simple 3 ingredient desserts.
Articles - Can You Really Be Healthy at Any Size? and How to do One Thing at a Time (how multi-tasking isn't really doing us any favors)

Magazine Review: Women's Health April 2010 - Kara DioGuardi

Women's Health is definitely one of my favorite magazines. Not only do they cover fitness and diet but also beauty, fashion & lifestyle issues, not to mention all the little tips sprinkled among the pages, like Eat This, Not That (from the popular books) & things like How to Arrange Flowers in a Vase.
For fitness articles, they have a great article about warming up through dynamic stretching. The monthly 15 Minute Workout is 4 crunch-less moves using Core Fusion techniques. They also listed a diet plan for a healthier cleanse.
Lots of good stuff for fashion and beauty this month. Several cute day dresses, flattering ways to wear things like t-shirt dresses, granny sweaters, buttondowns, etc, and they had several ways to dress 10 lbs thinner. For beauty, they had a section on how to apply blush for your face shape, something that I haven't really seen mentioned elsewhere.
A must-read article would be How to Not Be a Starter Wife. Very eye-opening & realistic. The media often gives us fairytale ideas about how a marriage should be & most of us end up disappointed. I'm glad that such a popular magazine is addressing the issue in this way.

Total pages: 134
Pages dog-earred: 11 (but could have a lot more marked)
