Finally, a good chick lit book!!! This novel is about a girl who's life is essentially falling apart. Her business partner had walked out on her and her boyfriend just dumped her (and accused her of stalking him). Her parents make her go to her great-aunt Sadie's funeral, a woman that she's never met and someone her parents didn't know well either. While at the funeral Lara sees her great-aunt's ghost, going on & on about her missing necklace. This is where the fun starts. Sadie nags Lara into doing a bunch of gasp-worthy things and while the ghost is an annoying burden in the beginning, Lara comes to have life much enriched by Sadie's attitude & antics. This is a mystery & there is a great twist. There is a happy, but not necessarily chick-lit-typical ending. Overall, a *great* book. I read the whole book (all 435 pages) in one day. I just couldn't put it down.

TV: Shows I normally watch
How did anyone watch tv before they invented DVRs? lol. Here is my current weekly DVR lineup:
Sunday:
->used to watch Til Death (canceled now) but had been getting annoyed at the random order in which they played episodes & the 3 different Allies. I liked the Doug-thinking-he-was-on-a-sitcom thing though
Simpsons
Family Guy
The Cleveland Show (BF's. I don't find it funny)
American Dad (before it was replaced by Sons of Tucson. Tried watching SoT but didn't think it was all that great)
Desperate Housewives (had watched this when it 1st started, then stopped, then last summer got caught up w/Lifetime reruns & started watching again)
Breaking Bad (another show I got hooked on via reruns/marathons)
Monday:
How I Met Your Mother (Lifetime also reruns earlier seasons on either Sat or Sun nights around 11pm)
Rules of Engagement (*love* Patrick Warburton)
The Big Bang Theory
Castle
-> used to watch Gossip Girl but it really got boring this season
Tuesday:
Lost
Melrose Place
The Good Wife
V
Parenthood
->have been recording Justified but haven't watched any episodes yet
Wednesday:
Human Target
The New Adventures of Old Christine
Gary Unmarried
Modern Family
Cougar Town
Shear Genius
Top Chef Masters
Thursday:
Bones
Vampire Diaries
->used to watch FlashForward but VD & Bones won the DVR war. Do wish they reran one of them so I could watch Community though)
Fringe
30 Rock
Private Practice
The Mentalist
The Real Housewives of NYC
Project Runway (although I pretty much just fast forward to the end to watch the runway show)
Friday:
Smallville
Merlin (on SyFy)

Food: Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies
These are one of my boyfriend's favorite cookies. Most of the time I don't bother to make them into sandwich-style cookies. Really yummy either way.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup quick cooking oats
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
- 2 1/2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
Directions
- In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup butter or margarine, 1/2 cup peanut butter, white sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Add egg and beat well.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add these dry ingredients to the creamed mixture. Stir. Add oatmeal and stir.
- Drop by teaspoons onto greased baking sheet, and press each mound down with a fork to form 1/4 inch thick cookies. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 10 minutes, or until cookies are a light brown. They are PB cookies, so make sure to not overbake.
- To Make Filling: Cream 3 tablespoons butter or margarine with the confectioners' sugar, 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter, and the cream. Spread filling onto half of the cooled cookies, then top with the other half to form sandwiches.

Books: Cocktails for Three, A Life's Work
This book is... fine. It didn't thrill me, but I didn't give up on it either. Maggie, Roxanne and Candice are three successful women in their early 30s working for the Londoner, a popular magazine in the UK. This book did inspire some emotional reactions from me, mainly annoyance towards Candice for being so naive and trusting, and sympathy for Maggie, a new mother having a rough time but afraid to admit it and be seen as a failure. But the story didn't feel new at all and it definitely wasn't something I was unable to put down. It was just ok.
This book is more honest than most, which I personally think is a good thing. A lot of mothers hide their true feelings and experiences because its not socially acceptable to admit to missing your old life or to say that you aren't sure how to correctly care for your child. Cusk calls out the people imposing the crazy restrictions on pregnant women and the breast-feeding nazis who do nothing but make you feel like a failure. This is a good book but only if you are already a mother & your child is a few years old. I am a mother but my baby was quite good (didn't wake up constantly for feedings, slept through the night early on, no colic) so my experiences differed a bit from the authors. About halfway through I started to doubt my desire to have a second child, in case I wouldn't be so lucky to have another good baby, and since I'm 8 month pregnant, its not exactly a great feeling to be having. I stopped reading it but will probably pick it up again after this baby is out & at least a few months old.

Magazine Review: Lucky May 2010 - Hilary Duff

Not too much as far as fashion. Two beauty articles stood out, The Lucky Hair Guide, which had an interesting way to add waves to your hair, and How to Conceal Anything, which has random tips from readers & experts & lots of product recs.
The most I got out of this magazine was random info.
~ Julia Roberts is the new beauty ambassador for Lancome
~ Cynthia Vincent is making a shoe line for Target, out April 18th. Visit Nitrolicious (http://www.nitrolicious.com/blog/) for pics of this line & of the Eugenia Kim hat line.
~ Hilary Duff is starring in the remake of Bonnie & Clyde. Also starring in Beauty & the Briefcase, airing on ABC Family in a few weeks.
~ Eva Longoria has her own perfume now, called Eva.

Recent purchases: Target!
I shop at Target quite a bit. Here are some recent purchases:
Guess I'll just pair this with tees & jeans & use it as a light jacket when I need it.

I LOVE this tee. I buy mine a bit bigger so its a looser fit than on the model. I also have this in olive green & gray.

Don't love this tee but I needed more casual summer tops.

I prefer the Old Navy tank tops (which I already had in white & gray) but I needed a few more so I picked these up.
Tend to be afraid of prints but this was a really cute top so I decided to go for it. I liked some of the Liberty of London dresses too but I won't be able to fit into them this year.
I *love* this scarf. SO cute, light & summery. I also got a gorgeous blue/purple/lavender floral scarf but I can't find any pics of it online
